Dental Checkups
Dr. Jivraj recommends that his patients come in twice a year for regular dental checkups. The dentist will perform a complete oral examination to catch early signs of tooth decay or gum disease and advise you on your dental care.
Regular Cleaning versus Deep Cleaning
We have excellent dental hygienists who are very experienced, know how to clean gently, and are very thorough.
Good oral hygiene is important to prevent a variety of dental and medical problems. Recent research has shown that the bacteria present in gum disease are also found in the plaques clogging arteries in people with heart disease.
Therefore, a good professional cleaning is essential not only for the health of your teeth, but also for your general well-being.
Our hygienists perform regular cleanings, recommended every six months, as well as Deep Cleaning to combat the onset of gum disease. Deep Cleaning removes bacteria that gets lodged in the gum pockets around and between the teeth. It's important to treat gum disease, also known as gingivitis, in its earliest stages to prevent it from spreading. Effective teeth cleaning methods are the most valuable tool you have, to ensure you keep your own teeth, all your life. After all, your smile is worth it.
Additional services our Hygienists provide
In addition to regular and deep cleanings, our well-trained hygienists provide many additional services including:
Bleaching - We offer several teeth bleaching options including Whitening for Life. Click here for more information.
Fluoride - Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the teeth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also reverses early decay. While smile quantities of fluoride can be found in toothpaste, it can be applied directly to your teeth at our offices in greater concentration.
Sealants - Dental sealants act as a barrier, protecting the teeth against decay-causing bacteria. In other words, they help prevent dental problems before they start. Sealants are easy for your dentist to apply, and it takes only a few minutes for our hygienists to seal each tooth.
Nightguards - Many people unknowingly grind their teeth during their sleep. Click here for more information about nightguards.
Invisalign - In addition to handling more severe bite problems, Invisalign can be used to correct mild alignment problems that will help you clean your teeth better and avoid tooth decay.
Laser Cavity Detection - The DIAGNOdent is a pen-like probe that sends a safe, painless laser beam into the tooth and checks its health. A number scale and an alarm will signal when there are signs of hidden decay. This allows us to determine if decay is lurking beneath the apparently healthy tooth surface.
Oral Cancer Screening - Oral cancer can pose a serious risk to your health, but the good news is that we can detect in its early stages when the chances for a cure are highest. This is a regular part of our checkups at the Anacapa Dental Art Institute.
